These photos were taken in November, 2018, wherein 25 people from Lansing & Detroit, Michigan participated in a Lansing Sister Cities International visit to Ghana, West Africa. The visit was largely humanitarian with the group providing medical and educational supplies/equipment to the communities of Akuapim/Nswam-Adwoagyri, which are located in the mountainous area of southeast Ghana. This was my 5th visit to Ghana, dating back to the late 1990's. So over this timeframe, I , like several members of our delegation, developed strong friendships through the years with many of the citizens in the communities that we visited. Among the highlights of the 2018 visit was a trip to the Slave Dungeon/Castle in Cape Coast; Slave River, where enslaved Africans were washed and prepared for sale at the Elmina, Slave Dungeon/Castle; church service at the Aburi Methodist Church; and the 30th Anniversary Ceremony of the installment of Paramount Chief, Nana Djjan Kwasi. Throughout this visit, I couldn't help but notice the vibrant colors that were prevalent wherever we visited. Whether it was church, a hospital, or a visit to Ghana's capital, Accra...vibrant colors stood out. These photos are my attempt to capture the spirit and joy of the colorful and friendly nation of Ghana.
